ABC1 is social grades which means these are the upperclass social grades, people in the ABC1 social grade have a higher income.


(b) Justify what type of products would be suitable to advertise in two of the print publications from Fig.1.

Publication 1: Auto Trader 

Justification: For this publication I would choose to advertise mens aftershave because this is a product bought by men aged 15-44 which are the main readers of this print publication. It is also read by a male heavy readership therefore maybe they could also advertise 


Publication: Take a Break 

Justify: They could advertise women's clothing in the magazine for example a Primark advertisement since Take a Break has a large women readership.

(a)  (i) State what the acronym BARB’ stands for.

Broadcasters' Audience Research Board


(ii) Explain what BARBs role is.

BARB's role is to record viewership of TV shows and TV channels.

 

(b)  Identify the most popular genre of programme on BBC 1.

The most popular genre of programme is soap operas/drama. 


(c)  Explain how the BBC may use this data to shape its promotional material. Use examples to support your answer.

Advertise Eastenders at around 6pm since that is the main time people watch soaps, This could said for the football as well since people  would be excited to watch it, they could advertise it throughout the week until it is the day. 


Use Fig. 2 and Fig. 3 and your own knowledge to answer the following question

Explain how the data can be used to show an audience researcher the difference between programming and target audience for BBC1 and Channel 4.

The main target audience for BBC1 is older women from a higher social grade because it shows more educated programs where as Channel 4 is more aimed at younger people mostly men because it has shows such as Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D  which is more of a male heavy show. 

4. (a)  Explain what the term ‘public service ownership’ means. Use examples to support your answer.

Public service ownership means that all content is made for the audience for example of one of these is the BBC and they are funded by something called a TV license, there ethos is inform, educate and entertain. 

(b)  Explain how a conglomerate company operates differently to an independent company. Use examples to support your answer.

A conglomerate company have subsidiaries, they are often vertically integrated and they can easily horizontally integrate this makes it a lot more harder for an independent company to operate. 


5. (a) (i) Identify the name of a cross-media company.

A cross-media company could be Disney


(ii) Explain how the company you identified above uses synergy. Use examples to support your answer.

Synergy  is when a company  choose the most effective method of marketing using your subsidiaries to maximise the success of a brand or product. Cross promotion is used to maximise the success of a brand. Disney use synergy by releasing soundtracks before the movie is released. 


6* Analyse the concepts of genre’ and representation’ in a media product you have studied.

In this essay I will be analysing the concepts of genre and representation in the film 



7 Analyse the ways a media product you have studied targets a specific audience.
(X factor is used as a form of escapism since it is watched on a Saturday at 7pm which is also known as a prime time when watching TV, it is also known as a WaterCooler programme which means its a show when a lot of people get together. It is watched by people of a younger age group both male and female is because of the celebrity judges for example Simon Cowell as well as the miss-en-scene) 

8. (a) Explain two ways products are advertised to audiences in the digital age. Use examples to support your answer.

One way a product is advertise in the digital age is by publishing videos on something like YouTube with some behind the scenes looks at introducing the cast. For example The Suicide Squad released a video on YouTube which showed what was going on behind the scenes and how is involved in the cast. Another way is personalised adverts on social media for a Tv show. For example Disney made personalised adverts for people who watch Disney+ so that the know about their new shows. 

(b) Identify three channels of distribution that are considered successful in the digital age in terms of products reaching audiences. Justify your answers.
