- A conglomerate company is a large company that owns other subsidiary companies. 

- A subsidiary is a small company that is usually owned by a conglomerate. 

- An independent company is a company that isn't owned by a conglomerate and it doesn't have any subsidiaries. Independent companies work with larger companies or more established companies to get their product distributed. For example is when Hat Trick Productions who made the sitcom Derry Girls worked as part of a  joint venture with Channel 4 to get it distributed on TV. When companies work as part of a joint venture it is because it is mutually beneficial for both companies.

- Synergy is when a company  chooses the most effective method of marketing across different media sectors.using their  subsidiaries to maximize the success of a brand or product. Cross promotion is used to maximize the success of a brand. This means cross promotion.
